600: Jesus, Tender Lover Of My Soul

Book:   1987 Song Book
Chapter:   Means of Grace

1.
Jesus, tender lover of my soul,
Pardoner of my sins, and friend indeed,
Keeper of the garden of my heart,
Jesus, thou art everything to me.

Chorus
Jesus, thou art everything to me,
Jesus, thou art everything to me,
All my lasting joys are found in thee;
Jesus, thou art everything to me.

2.
What to me are all the joys of earth?
What to me is every sight I see,
Save the sight of thee, O Friend of mine?
Jesus, thou art everything to me.

3.
Here I lay me at thy bleeding feet,
Deepest homage now I give to thee;
Hear thy whispered love within my soul;
Jesus, thou art everything to me.

Jesus, tender lover of my soul

chorus: Arthur S. Arnott (1870-1941)The chorus was written for a melody which Arthur Arnott adapted from a tune he heard at a Sunday-school anniversary.Edward Joy heard the chorus at congress meetings in Melbourne, when he was travelling with Commissioner T. Henry Howard, and later wrote the verses during a spiritual day for cadets at Clapton, where General Bramwell Booth spoke of Christ as the 'Gardener of the Soul'. The song was published in The Musical Salvationist, August 1920, a special issue entitled'International Gleanings', which included songs collected during Commissioner Howard's world tour in 1919.
